WEDNESDAY, OCT. 22ND, 1952 Weather Tuesday: high 59, low 28, Rel. Hum. 34. . . Saturday is the last day for new citizens to T-fgister to vote in the General Election of Nov. 4th. The Boy Scouts of the county are making plans to hang paper Liberty bells on the door knobs of all citizens as a reminder to them to vote. The bells do not tell how one should vote, but VOTE for the persons of their choice. The larger the number of voters who participate in the election the better chance the people will have good govern ment. We have two great men as Sp,didates for president. They have |pfn the respect of millions of people. Which ever one wins will have his hands full, and will have I the support of the majority of ! the people. No president can carry j out his own ideas unless he has able advisors and a Congress to support him. It is very important to go to tne pous ana vote ior our county and state officers. They are the starting points as advisors to men higher up. . . A reception committee for the Tryon Chamber of Commerce annual dinner meet ing on Monday, Oct. 27th at Oak Hall has been named as follows: Mrs. E. E. Missildine, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Craig, Archie L. McFarland Jr. will be in charge of the Tryon Rotary Club program Friday at 1 p. m. at Oak Hall hotel and will have as guest speaker, Miss Molly Wash hum who was graduated from Cornell University in June and made a summer visit to Europe. JUNIOR GARDEN CLUB Mrs. Norville Holcombe of Spartanburg, was the guest speak er at the first meeting of the Landrum Junior Garden Club. She urged the girls to be “good garden club members.” After showing colored pictures of sever al roses, Mrs. Holcombe displayed a collection of sea shells. Each of the girls was given several small shells and asked to start a collection of her own. Dorothy Morrow was elected president, Ann Wright, vice presi dent and Nancy Morris, secretary and treasurer. Following the meeting, punch and cookies were served by the sponsors: Mrs. J. L. Petty of the Weeders, Mrs. Tommy Wright of the Landrum Club, Mrs. Fred Crain of the Thrift-y Club and Mrs. Joe Bagwell of the Spaders. Mrs. B. Frank Carruth, presi dent of the Council presided. Census report shows that 764 bales of cotton were ginned in Polk County, N. C. from the crop of 1952 prior to Oct. 1, 1952 as compared with 226 bales for the crop of 1951.
